POLYBUTENES PIB – FDA APPROVED USES
Under number 177.1430 of Food Additive Regulation of Food and Drug
Administration – USA has ruled that all Polybutenes PIB grades have
been qualified as components of articles intended for use in contact
with food in the following applications:
1.        As a release agent in petroleum wax complying with 178.3710.
2.        As a plasticizer in polyethylene complying with 177.1520 and in
            polystyrene complying with 177.1640.
3.        As a component of non-food articles complying with:
           178.3740
- to plasticize polyethylene (PIB 6 can also be used).
           175.300
- in resinous and polymeric coatings.
           176.210
- in defoaming agents used in the manufacture of paper and
                           
paperboard.

- as a component of adhesives

- in paper and paperboard components

- as a surface lubricant in the manufacture of metalics articles
                          ( PIB 6 can also be used) ;

- in resin-bonded fibers;
