THE PRODUCT
Polybutenes-PIB are liquid polymers in consistency from light oils to extremely viscous liquids. They are used in numerous applications either by themselves, compounded with other materials, or, as starting materials for chemicals derivatives. Many of the properties and applications of Polybutenes–PIB are available in this site. Polybutenes–PIB are produced by catalytic polymerization of a pure C4 Stream rich in isobutene. The catalyst used is Aluminum Chloride and the technology used is from Chevron, USA. Chemically polybutenes are aliphatic hydrocarbons mono olefins. Oil soluble detergents, anti-rust additives and other chemicals can be made from polybutenes. Polybutenes–PIB special physical-chemical characteristics shows clearly the economics advantage in the use of these products as an economic and safe alternative for low molecular weight polymer.

REACTIVY |
Each polybutene molecule contains one double bond. This permits reactions common to aliphatic olefins. |
| TOXICITY | Polybutenes PIB are noted for their extremely high purity and are free from heavy metals. Toxicological tests performed on animals confirm that Polybutenes PIB present no significant health hazard and that no special handling is required when used as recommended. Polybutenes PIB, also meet various requirements for uses in accordance with FDA regulations. |
| LUBRICANTS | Polybutenes PIB have excellent lubricity properties, water white color and high viscosity grades . |
| COMPATIBILITY | Polybutenes PIB are compatible with a wide variety of organic materials and are used as tackifiers and plasticizers. |
| TACKNESS | The heavier grades are tacky with the degree of tackness increasing with increasing of viscosity. The lighter grades are oily to the touch. |
| PLASTICIZER | Polybutene PIB are plasticizer for many resins estergums and polyterpenes hydrocarbons resin. Flexibility is noticeably increased at moderately low PIB concentrations. |
| SOLUBILITY | Polybutenes PIB are soluble in non-oxigenated solvents, such as thinners, in chlorinated solvents and some etheres and hydrocarbons. |
| COLOR | Polybutenes PIB are essentially water-white polymers and are unchanged by light and time action. |
| EMULSIFICATION | All grades of Polybutenes PIB are emulsified using anionic, cationic and non-ionic emulsifying agents. The heavier grades of polybutenes require heating application and a more vigorous agitation. |
| ELETRICAL INSULATION | Polybutenes PIB have excellent dielectric properties that makes it suitable as impregnants for insulating papers, cable oil and combined with polyolefins as insulant gels. |
| DEPOLYMERATION | Polybutenes PIB are stable at room temperature but will depolymerize at high temperature. For high viscosity grade the depolymerization becomes significant above 270ºC. |
